Fishing Lake Chatuge

Overview:
Lake Chatuge is without question in the top 3 lakes of Western North Carolina! With its highland reservoir characteristics mixed with that famous Georgia red clay it makes Lake Chatuge a fisherman's paradise! Chatuge is loaded with GIANT spotted bass and GIANT Florida strain Largemouth! The fish are able to grow so well in Lake Chatuge because of the dense population of blueback herring, threadfin shad and big gizzard shad. The lake provides so much fishy habitat for the predatory fish species that a fisherman can really fish his or her strengths.

Lures
Shad imitation baits are the best players on Lake Chatuge, year round the fish intensely chase bait and are nomadic when it comes feeding on herring. Covering water looking for aggressive schools of feeding bass is the key. Flukes, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jerkbaits, topwater, swimbaits, underspins, spybaits, spoons and swim jigs are all great choices when chasing these big spotted and largemouth bass!

Areas
Points, shoals, pockets, steep channel swing banks and bays that have brush around them hold a lot of the big schools of spotted bass. The largemouth are beginning to act more like spotted bass but the big largemouth are still positioning around brush, grass, docks and other shallow structure. Deep brush always holds fish, whether they are fish in transition or suspended they will lock on to brush and wait for bait to go by.
